adidas Sold Over 400,000 Pairs of NMDs on Its "Launch" Day
March 17 was a huge day for the Three Stripes.
The adidas NMD may have made its debut back in December of last year, but the biggest day for the silhouette? That came just a couple of months ago as the silhouette got a more widespread rollout on March 17 following camouflage Primeknit releases in grey and yellow — both of which flew off shelves and disappeared almost instantly.
So just how big of a day was March 17? As detailed by adidas CEO Herbert Hainer in the brand’s quarterly earnings report, the Three Stripes sold over 400,000 pairs of the sleek low-tops on that day alone. Spearheaded by the coveted Primeknit-constructed “Monochrome” pack, that day’s drops included a number of additional mesh and “Knit Circa” executions, all of which combined to give the German sportswear giant one of its biggest sales days in recent memory — Taiwanese sneakerheads even rioted for the release. By comparison, Jordan Brand’s “72-10” edition of the Air Jordan 11 sold over a million pairs last December, 383,094 of which were in adult sizes — and that’s over the course of an entire month during the insane holiday shopping season.
Needless to say, the NMDs are killing it right now — and you can expect a whole lot more of them in the months to come, including the upcoming XR1.
