March 26, 1987 marks one of the most significant dates in the history of sneaker culture, when the renowned Tinker Hatfield turned a new leaf in sneaker design with the Air Max 1. In the ensuing 29 years, the Air Max series has fully transitioned from the running track to the streets, in the process becoming a cultural icon. As we near this year’s Air Max Day, Nike has pulled out all the stops with the Air Max Con, set to take place in the three cities of New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong. To accompany this event, a NIKEiD Air Max pop-up shop also opened over the past weekend in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay shopping district, styled with a clean and futuristic interior to symbolize the unbroken lineage of the Air Max line. The space is a stage for the made-to-order NIKEiD experience as it pertains to the Air Max silhouette, with the Air Max 1, Air Max 90, Air Max 95, Air Max 2016, and women’s Air Max Thea available for customization. Make sure to visit the pop-up store from now until its last day on Air Max Day, March 26.
Within the pop-up are ten iD Stations where guests can unleash their creativity on the NIKEiD Air Max using a range of materials and colors at their disposal
TV screens throughout broadcast clips of 26 select athletes and their NIKEiD Air Maxes, in a bid to inspire those designing their own sneakers in the store.
A photo booth allows you to commemorate the experience with both a hard and soft copy of a selfie, which can be sent to your email or uploaded directly to Instagram. A TV wall displays your photo in a collage afterwards.
Apart from the Air Max iD, guests can choose an Air Max silhouette to be printed in a particular color on a complimentary tote bag.
