Chinese Club Offers up $400 Million USD for Cristiano Ronaldo
A fitting end to his spectacular year.

According to Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, the Real Madrid superstar was offered a €100 million EUR (approximately $105.4 million USD) a year salary, on top a €300 million EUR (approximately $316.1 million USD) transfer fee for Real Madrid to join an unnamed Chinese Super League club. What’s more disturbing than the dollar figure, is the idea that Ronaldo — the reigning Champions League and EURO champ, as well as the recently crowned Ballon d’Or winner — would actually end his spectacular year by demoting himself to a second, or even third rate league.
But can you blame them? The CSL club, that it is. Football is wildly popular in China, but its national team hasn’t delivered much hardware to the country, making it’s CSL — the highest tier of professional football in China — an massively underachieving league in comparison to the likes of the La Liga. With that said, CSL clubs are required pull out bulldozers of money just to get the attention of elite, or once elite footballers. Most recently, Carlos Tevez inked a new CSL deal that’ll earn him approximately $762,000 USD a week.
Needless to say, Ronaldo declined the offer.
