adidas Unveils Its First Mass-Produced Parley Ocean Plastic Collection
Featuring an UltraBOOST Uncaged and jerseys for two of the world’s biggest football clubs.

Though nearly impossible to get a hold of, adidas’s ocean plastic-constructed collaborative endeavor with Parley for the Oceans has at least been fruitful. After kicking off with a 3D-printed sole unit last year, the endeavor has seen a BOOST-cushioned runner for World Oceans Day and two UltraBOOSTs in the months since. Now, after promising to increase the scale of production, adi is making good on its word with the first-ever mass-produced collection to utilize Parley’s recycled ocean plastic.
Highlighting the range is a specially crafted take on the UltraBOOST Uncaged. Boasting a look inspired by ocean waves, the clean design features a knitted upper crafted from 95% Parley Ocean Plastic and 5% recycled polyester and sees recycled materials applied to everything from the laces and heel counter to the heel’s webbing, the lining, and footbed.
Unlike past adidas x Parley collaborations, though, this one isn’t limited to footwear alone. Joining the UltraBOOSTs are jerseys for two of the world’s biggest football clubs: Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Like the kicks, both shirts come with Parley Ocean Plastic construction and even go so far as to employ environmentally friendly, water-based prints. The results are tonal white and red kits that not only look incredible, but are sustainably constructed, too. Said adidas’s Eric Liedtke of the release:
This represents another step on the journey of adidas and Parley for the Oceans. We have not only managed to make footwear from recycled ocean plastic, but have also created the first jersey coming 100 percent out of the ocean. But we won’t stop there. We will make one million pairs of shoes using Parley Ocean Plastic in 2017 – and our ultimate ambition is to eliminate virgin plastic from our supply chain.
Parley founder Cyrill Gutsch added:
At this point, it’s no longer just about raising awareness. It’s about taking action and implementing strategies that can end the cycle of plastic pollution for good. Eco-innovation is an open playing field. With the release of the Ocean Plastic jerseys and UltraBOOST Uncaged adidas x Parley shoes, we’re inviting every consumer, player, team and fan to own their impact under Parley A.I.R. and define their role within the movement.
Seven-thousand pairs of the Parley x adidas UltraBOOST Uncaged will be available from adidas.com/parley later this month while the Bayern Munich and Real Madrid shirts will drop online and in select stores on November 4 and November 24, respectively. You can also catch the boys from Bayern on the pitch in their all-red kits this Saturday, November 5, as they take on TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Los Blancos, on the other hand, will rock theirs for their match against Real Sporting de Gijón on November 26.
