If you have a seething hate for selfies, we have bad news for you. Following trials in the Netherlands, U.S. and Canada, Mastercard has rolled out fingerprint and selfie identification payment methods in 12 European countries starting today. The Mastercard Identity Check Mobile application will require users to blink when prompted, enabling customers to complete online and app-based purchases without a password or a PIN. Faced with growing competition from mobile payment services, the credit card corporation’s latest venture is a move towards frictionless and more secure forms of payment technology. The new feature will be introduced outside of Europe in phases next year.
