Hudson Mohawke Tapped for 'Watch Dogs 2' Soundtrack, Shares 'Shanghaied'
Hudmo aims to create a classic sci-fi soundtrack.
A year after the release of his last major studio album Lantern, acclaimed Scottish producer-DJ Hudson Mohawke connects with Ubisoft to create the official soundtrack for the forthcoming video game Watch Dogs 2. “Working on a soundtrack was a really exciting and refreshing prospect for me, especially considering the themes involved in the game are things I’m also passionate about,” explains Hudmo. ”In 2016, this project, along with the ANOHNI LP, have allowed me to experiment and have the opportunity to reach new audiences with my music without needing a “genre” stamp.”
Inspired by the sound of soundtracks created for the science fiction genre’s cult-favorites, the former TNGHT producer aimed to create a score that remains true to the classic style of John Carpenter, Vangelis and Tomita but is grounded in the signature electronic rap beats that caught the attention of Kanye West, Pusha T and others. To introduce his new efforts with Ubisoft, Hudson Mohawke has also unveiled his first original production for Watch Dogs 2, “Shanghaied.” You can stream “Shanghaied” below, while a trailer for HudMo’s Watch Dogs 2 soundtrack is available for viewing above. The Watch Dogs 2 OST will see release on November 11 via Warp Records.
