Champion’s SS17 collection treads on new ground while remaining within the boundaries of what made the brand popular in the first place. A new sub-collection called ‘PP-Spray’ introduces a set of garments that are dyed and manually sprayed so that the piece has a vintage look, similar to the archive sweatshirts of the 1990s. There’s also a new indigo line, which uses famous dyeing techniques to achieve a gently washed-out look.
The reverse weave fabric makes a return throughout this collection, having been made famous back in 1952. The collection remains true to Champion in that it’s jersey-focused, with the key products still being sweatshirts, hoodies and sweatpants, similar to what it did in its recent Stussy collaboration. There’s the classic navy and black colorways as well as muted pastels in mint green, yellow and pink. There’s no word on whether the new sub-collections will be solely for select retailers so look for it to drop alongside the rest of range at the beginning of next year.
