Ridley Scott's 'The Martian' Explores Psychological Effects of Space Travel in New Trailer
Scott’s Mars epic with Matt Damon will grapple with the effect of isolation in space.
As we gear up for the autumn release of his latest film, The Martian, here Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox drop a new trailer profiling each of its characters. The basic premise of the film centers around one Mark Watney (Matt Damon), who alongside a crew of specialists, ventures to the Red Planet on behalf of humanity. Although touched upon in films such as Interstellar and even Gravity, Scott’s The Martian is partly devoted to the effects of isolation on the mind, here exemplified through a look at the space explorers after a 10-day solo confinement exercise. No doubt an integral precursor to the film’s storyline, check out the humorous trailer above and look for The Martian to release in theaters on October 2.
