It seems as if Rick Owens is simply destined to make headlines following the conclusion of each new collection. Owens’ latest unveiling was no exception, as a model abruptly abused the catwalk platform to air out his grievances towards the German chancellor with a handwritten message. Aside from the unfortunate distraction, the 2016 spring/summer line ran its course as practiced — models strutted down the runway in sleeveless, leather tops, hovering over black shorts and polished high top boots. Latex jackets and tank tops create a crinkled texture, which effectively distort the otherwise simple pieces. A mint green, and burnt orange color palette was introduced in the latter half of the show, a step away from the restricted black and white hues of a traditional Rick Owens collection. Garbs appearing to be constructed from two shirts sewn together (vertically mirroring each other, with the front sleeves cut out), and another tied around the waist utilized the divergent colors.
