Over 20,000 Nicki Minaj fans sign a petition to strip Iggy Azalea of her Billboard Music Award for ‘Top Rap Song.’ Her song “Fancy” was up against Nicki’s “Anaconda” and fans who started the site, Change.org, main argument is based on eligibility. “Fancy” was released February 17, nearly one month prior to the eligibility date that started March 14, 2014. The song saw it’s first time on Billboard’s Top 100 during the week of March 22, 2014. After the petition closed at 21,661 signatures, one of it’s organizers wrote the following to all of it’s supporters:
“To everyone who signed the petition to retract Iggy’s Billboard Music Award, thank you first and foremost; however, a spokesperson for Dick Clark Productions, who produces the award show, has said that the award is still Iggy’s unfortunately. We got to nearly 20,000 signatures, which is freaking insane. I think Nicki possibly saw the petition, and MTV even wrote an article about it! Thank you for all the all the support!”
