Even down to the rhetoric used around summertime, we think of the season as synonymous with ‘getaway’. Summer Fridays, for instance, imply half-days on Fridays for some employees, giving them time to reinvigorate outside of the office while the weather is warm. Monocle’s figurative ear perks up around this time of the year, with the publication in many ways focused on the wonders of travel. Teaming up with longtime friend and publisher Gestalten, the two parties have launched a series of city guides to prepare audiences for summer trips to popular destinations – and experience those cities as a local, not a tourist. Accordingly, editions for both London and New York will kick off the series, highlighting Monocle’s favorite places to eat, drink, shop and entertain.
