Christo – the renowned Bulgarian artist behind Central Park’s The Gates, amongst other installations – has unveiled plans for his first public project in Italy for over 40 years. The artist, who survives his wife and design partner Jeanne-Claude, has envisioned yet another large-scale project in the name of natural aesthetic amplification, this time taking to Italy’s Lake Iseo for the Floating Piers floating dock system. Comprised of three main bridges and a walkway, these floating surfaces will connect the areas of Sulzano, Monte Isola and the small island of San Paolo with 70,000 square meters of shimmering, almost gilded fabric. Projected for installation for just 16 days in 2016, the Floating Piers exhibition will be removed and recycled afterwards. With his work often the subject of polarized controversy, what do you make of the latest work from Christo?
