Designers Alberto Biagetti and Laura Baldassari collaborated in celebration of this year’s Milan Design Week to transform a bevy of humble gym equipment into beautifully elevated contemporary furniture. Dubbed “Body Building,” the creative display — curated by Maria Cristina Didero — saw the likes of a traditional pommel horse combined with luxurious materials like pony skin and beaver fur for a reinterpretation of a prototypical living room bench while dumb bells could be seen supporting an elegant coffee table. Gymnastic rings even made an appearance as playfully suspended tubes of light. In the end, “Body Building” existed as a lighthearted and tongue-in-cheek nod to society’s obsession with bodybuilding and exercising while simultaneously displaying its creators’ imagination and penchant for modern design.
