While location-based social check-in app Foursquare hasn’t been on anyone’s radar as of late, Yahoo! may be making one of its biggest bets yet by purchasing the platform for a cool $900 million USD. Foursquare has struggled in the past few years, but its location database is considered the best in the business, as it is known for having superior accuracy and detail compared to other options like Facebook. It has also amassed a significant amount of data in the last six years from the 7 billion check-ins, 70 million tips, 55 million people, 65 million places and 90 million “tastes” that have been logged through its apps. This combination of technology and data could give Yahoo! a real edge as it continues to rebrand and rebuild its business with a strong mobile focus, and as it continues to bolster its efforts in the area of social with the acquisition of Tumblr a few years ago. This isn’t confirmed news yet, so stay tuned for more on this developing story.
