Byredo and Oliver Peoples have come together for a collaboration featuring both brands’ fortes — scent and sunglasses. The collaboration is inspired by Los Angeles and the phenomenon of synesthesia: a neurological circumstance where one has a connection between senses, when a smell may trigger a color or shape. According to Byredo founder Ben Gorham, “Synesthesia is classified as a disorder but I’ve only heard of it in immensely creative people, so in my mind it’s a gift.” The scent is inspired by Los Angeles’ scenery, with notes of lemon and juniper berries mixed with oris butter, patchouli fraction, musks, warm sand accord and helichrysum. Three different glass bottles encase the scents, each representing different perspectives of Los Angeles. To complement the scents are a pair of Oliver Peoples wayfarers, touting a semi-black frame and beige crystal lenses. The two items come packaged in a wooden box, and the set will be available next month.
