Announced today, American Apparel has appointed a new menswear head designer. Surprisingly, the struggling retailer has tapped Joseph Pickman as its choice, who was previously Band of Outsiders’ head of men’s design for more than three years. The appointment, effective last week, hopes to see Pickman bring some of his experience at Band of Outsiders to revive American Apparel’s skin-tight, short shorts-clad reputation. The news comes during a time when newly-appointed CEO Paula Schneider is making a myriad of changes at the company, with hundreds of layoffs in hopes of becoming relevant and profitable again.
