Uber has already changed the taxi landscape forever but the company’s CEO Travis Kalanick has revealed a more ambitious goal of ending car ownership. In a recent Twitter post Kalanick revealed, “Our intention is to make Uber so efficient, cars so highly utilized that for most people it is cheaper than owning a car,” in a response to a journalist who asked whether the company would keep its rates low once there were fewer competitors. In an effort to make trips more affordable Uber recently introduced its “UberPool” initiative, a ride-sharing service that allows you to split the cost with another person who happens to be requesting a ride along a similar route. Furthermore, a change in the company’s tagline from “Everyone’s private driver” to “Transportation as reliable as running water, everywhere for everyone” hints that Uber is trying to become something bigger than just an app-based taxi company.
