New Book Details the 'Rise and Fall of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano'
Dana Thomas’s new book, Gods and Kings: The Rise and Fall of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano,

Dana Thomas’s new book, Gods and Kings: The Rise and Fall of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano, goes in depth about the two storied designers, outlining their successes and eventual downfall. The project began as Thomas was writing a piece covering Galliano‘s notoriously infamous downfall for the Washington Post. Her research led her to learn more about many other designer’s low points, such as Marc Jacobs‘ stints in rehab, Tom Ford‘s depression and Christophe Decarnin’s reported time in an asylum. Noticing a dark trend with these creatives, Thomas was inspired to study these trends. McQueen had committed suicide in 2010, with a long history with mental illness and depression. Galliano, on the other hand, was dismissed by Dior in 2011 following a notoriously covered anti-Semitic tirade. With previous research and information accumulated through the years, Thomas gives us an inside look into the careers of McQueen and Galliano, among many other creatives and the dire trend that seems to run through.
