In an effort to sustain the bustling artistic life of one of the world’s biggest cities, the mayor of New York City has promised struggling artists 1,500 cheap housing units to ease the irks of rising living costs. In a recent State of the City Address, Mayor Bill de Blasio promised the city’s artists cheap housing as he explicated his awareness of young, aspiring people moving out and away from The Big Apple a harrowing blow to the soul of New York. This is a notable realization, as the city draws millions of people each year to dance, act, and sing in hopes of making it big. The mayor did also assure citizens he wasn’t only favoring artists, as affordable housing has also been promised for army veterans and senior citizens. Certainly a daring venture and, while no word has been made on when or how long these plans will take till fruition, the support is refreshing to see.
