Kazuki Kuraishi Talks About the kzKLOT x adidas Originals Superstar 80s 84-LAB

CLOT unveils its latest shoe collaboration with Kazuki Kuraishi and adidas Originals. Reworking the iconic Superstar 80s, the shoe is clad in an all-over camouflage print upper, black 3-Stripes motif, and an off-white toe shell cap and outsole. The special camouflage print boasts a unique textural contrast that was custom designed by Edison Chen and Kuraishi. This special edition of the Superstar 80s is a part of Kazuki’s 84-Lab collection for adidas and will be released February 6. Can you tell us a bit about this latest collaboration?
I’ve been working with adidas since 2008 doing the ObyO line. After that stopped, they wanted to introduce a new line, which is 84-Lab. I sometimes invite other designers to work together and this collaboration with CLOT is an extension of that.

Starting this coming Fall/Winter season, the 84-Lab. will be changed to THE FOURNESS, so I’m bringing my new collection and the adidas collection together under the same name.

Both the shoes and jacket feature a black mesh top layer. Can you tell us a little bit more about this detail?
Typically, camouflage patterns layer four different colors to create the effect. For the shoes and jacket we used three different green layers with the black mesh layer completing the look while also adding a unique textural element to the pattern.

When it comes to designing footwear versus apparel are there any challenges or differences?
For adidas, when it comes to shoes they know what they are doing and they are really good at it. With the mesh shoes, the camo mesh was pretty difficult to achieve but as an experienced shoe company, if I suggest a design they usually come back with a really good result.

When it comes to apparel, sometimes the design can be a bit more tricky or challenging.
