Outspoken founder of A.P.C., Jean Touitou, has discussed last month’s controversy surrounding the naming of his collection with The Guardian. Speaking to Lauren Cochrane, in an article titled “Jean Touitou: The Gobbiest Man In Fashion?”, the designer claims that:
“If all the people had been singing this song, including white people, will they get into trouble for using that word? I was just quoting a song, but I was ignorant of the power of that word, that it would upset so many people, and I deeply regret that.”
Touitou also discusses his beginnings in the industry, his friendship with Kanye West, his ongoing flirtations with politics, and what he calls a “search for beauty” that has led to the formulation of A.P.C.’s distinctive, tasteful style in the interview published online by the British newspaper.
