Originally teased more than a year ago, Ron Howard’s In The Heart of The Sea is finally set to make its way to theaters next month. Based on Nathaniel Philbrick’s 2000 non-fiction book of the same name, In The Heart of The Sea tells the tale of the sinking of the American whaling ship Essex in 1820 — the basis for Herman Melville’s iconic Moby Dick. Split in half and sunk by a massive sperm whale, the Essex left its crew stranded at sea thousands of miles from land. After enduring the open waters for 90 days, the crew eventually lands in South America before being forced to resort to cannibalism for survival.

Starring Chris Hemsworth alongside Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, Benjamin Walker, and Tom Holland, In The Heart of The Sea is due out December 11.
