mophie is bringing heaven and hell to the Big Game this year, debuting an epic 60-second spot entitled “All Powerless.” The spot depicts the end of the world in dramatic fashion, with everything from blizzards in Africa, to flying penguins and Inception-style violations of the laws of gravity. All the chaos and mayhem of doomsday wrap up in the last few seconds, where it is revealed that the destruction of Earth is actually brought about by God’s cellphone’s battery dying. It’s a humorous allusion to the powerlessness and vulnerability we all feel when our own phones die on us, and gives credence to the importance of staying charged with a mophie battery case. mophie is hoping the big-budget spot and massive Super Bowl audience will help the brand resonate with a wider audience. Pete Favat, CCO of Deutsch LA — the agency that created the spot — told Adweek:
We’re trying to establish a new market with this ad. There’s 10 percent category awareness, 9 percent brand awareness for us. There’s no better opportunity than the Super Bowl to get attention for your brand.
So get ready for the end of the world this Sunday… Just make sure your phone is charged.
