Back in 2014, and after nearly a year of planning, Ballantine’s — one of the world’s leading Scotch Whiskies — has teamed up with internationally renowned ‘GIF-ITI’ artist INSA for an ambitious art project: creating the world’s largest animated GIF. Along with a Ballatine’s team of 20, INSA arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to illustrate the giant artwork on the ground in four stages over four days and measured a total of 57,515m2 (made up of four images measuring 14,379m2 each). The artwork is inspired by INSA’s iconic Looking For Love… heart design with the huge painting being each captured via a satellite orbiting 431 miles above the Earth, and ultimately transformed by INSA into a moving piece of animated “GIF-ITI.” This intriguing process is documented in a three-minute video, which you can view above.
INSA’s Space GIF-ITI is the third in a series of collaborations between Ballantine’s and creative talent from around the world who incorporate Ballantine’s mantra of ‘Stay True’ in their art, which is inspired by their personal styles, talents and beliefs. INSA began his career as a graffiti writer and went on to become known for his unique patterns and motifs, which have since been displayed around the world, both at street level and in high-profile exhibitions and media, including within London’s Victoria & Albert Museum and Tate Britain.
