In a newly-released piece for GQ, writer Mark Anthony Green links up with Travi$ Scott for a brisk Q&A session. The exchange yielded several attention-worthy bits of information, including Scott’s opinion on his summer-conquering release, Days Before Rodeo, his desire to do a tour in support of the project, and who exactly he views as competition. He also gave a pretty general, vague response regarding Kanye’s new album, but his confidence in the quality of the project is definitely there. Speaking to GQ, Scott said Kanye is coming to “kick some ass” with his new effort, and that he was “so excited” for the new LP. On the response to Days Before Rodeo and the album in general:
I’m kind of surprised. I thought it was gonna take a little minute for people to probably fuck with it. But I always thought the album was ill—the idea of what I wanted to do was ill as fuck. I just didn’t know if people were going to understand the way I put it across. So I’m glad.
The album was made from a Southern hospitality place. I was only trying to fuck with people that kind of grew from the roots that I came from. We all kind of all speak the same story. But I’m also from a different world as, like, the rest of those guys. They’re from that world and I visit that world, cause that’s like my origins and shit. But it’s not a place where I dwell. I’m more, like, somewhere in a treehouse. You know what I’m saying?
Just call it a free album. Just call it, like, an album that was just free. For real, that’s what it is. You just didn’t have to buy it. I could have easily uploaded it to iTunes and made you pay for all that shit, but that’s not what it’s about.
On who he views a competition:
Mostly singers and shit. I don’t think any rappers. Like a James Blake, or Toro [Y Moi], or like a M.I.A. or some shit. These rappers, man… I don’t know, man. It’s mad boring
