Aiming to pay homage to its hometown, New York City-based The Meatball Shop released a small, but covetable capsule in collaboration with both SHUT Skateboards and Vans. Since its inception, The Meatball Shop has played a pivotal role in the renaissance of the Lower East Side; reclaiming the neighborhood in a radius of hotspots by New York-bred entrepreneurs. There’s perhaps no greater emblem of this than SHUT (founded in 1986), which is one of the longest-running independent skateboard brands in the city.
As such, the Steve Ellis-designed deck pays homage to both parties with its vintage meat grinder – a literal nod to The Meatball Shop that also plays on the raw, gritty spirit of New York skateboarding. A surprise collaboration with Vans completes the project, adorned with Guatemalan-sourced fabric from Proud Mary Textiles. Executed in the shop’s penchant red-white color palette, the shoe features a branded insert and embroidered heel tab. If you haven’t already, head over to The Meatball Shop’s web store to pick up these slices of New York history.
