You can count Earl Sweatshirt as one of the critics of Taylor Swift video for her new single, “Shake It Off.” The visual for “Shake It Off” has been criticized for some of its stereotypical showcases, such as the trope of twerkers dancing during the clip. Taylor Swift’s new offering even prompted Jezebel writer Hillary Crosley to christen the video as a ”cringe-worthy mess.” Though Earl admits to not seeing the video, the rapper didn’t need to to have an opinion on it. Taking to Twitter to voice his own dissension, the LA emcee tweeted the following:
haven’t watched the taylor swift video and I don’t need to watch it to tell you that it’s inherently offensive and ultimately harmful

perpetuating black stereotypes to the same demographic of white girls who hide their prejudice by proclaiming their love of the culture — EARL (@earlxsweat) August 19, 2014
for instance, those of you who are afraid of black people but love that in 2014 it’s ok for you to be trill or twerk or say nigga

For those curious, you can check out the video here. The track’s opening lines of “There’s nothing in my brain, that’s what people say,” are ringing pretty true right about now.
