Kanye West Wins Legal Battle Against Coinye

The virtual currency Coinye West is no more. In documents filed earlier this year, a U.S. District Court declared Kanye West the victor over most of Coinye’s makers, by default because they never bothered to respond to his complaints. As NBC News points out, a total of 84 documents were filed since last January, and the case grew with over 100 people involved. Only three of the defendants, Richard McCord, David McEnery and Harry Willis, settled with West. Willis, a 17-year-old UK citizen said in an interview:

“I’ve never had anyone try to sue me before, let alone an A-list celebrity. We didn’t win but we’ve cost Mr. West thousands in legal fees, which is a great feeling. Also, the main reason I settled is because I get to have West’s lawyer, a United States district judge, and Kanye West’s signature along with my signature on the legal document that removes me as a defendant, which I will print off and frame.”

The parody electronic currency was announced in January but immediately shut down after West filed a cease-and-desist order and sued the group of defendants for unspecified damages.
