Having recently wowed fans at the Warped tour as well as at Coachella, young Brooklyn-based metal trio, Unlocking the Truth, are set to make a huge impact on the music scene this year – and it looks like they’ve received Sony’s seal of approval. Guitarist Malcolm Brickhouse, 13, bassist Alec Atkins, 13, and drummer Jarad Dawkins, 12, have officially signed a record deal with Sony that’s potentially worth $1.7 million.
According to The NY Post, this encompasses a guaranteed two-album deal with a $60,000 advance on their first album and up to a $350,000 advance on their second. If Sony goes all the way with the six-record contract, the band could net upwards of $1.7 million. Due to the band member’s age, the contract had to be approved in the Manhattan Supreme Court. Additionally, the group also has a book deal with Penguin, which is due to release around Christmas.
The band was discovered by GRAMMY award-winning drummer Steve Jordan when they were playing a set in Washington Square Park in 2012.
