At this point, you shouldn’t even have to begin listening to something with Freddie Gibbs‘ name attached to it to know that Gibbs is going to sound absolutely psychotic no matter what the beat is or what flow he chooses to adopt. Following up his AOTY-contending collaboration with LA producer Madlib, the Gary export is taking his next set of soundscapes from the other side of California with today’s release The Tonite Show – Gangsta Gibbs’ collaborative project with Bay Area producer The World’s Freshest. The album is available now on iTunes, and as a free preview the duo have released the Trae Tha Truth & Yukmouth-assisted joint “I Be On My Grind.”

Although none of the rappers featured on this cut necessarily break new lyrical ground, this meeting of the West, South, and Midwest is a textbook example of how good something can sound when talented emcees from different regions link up. There’s not much that can be said, other than that this is great rap music. The production is as wavy as a spring day spent cruising and coasting in the Bay, and all three spitters simply snap on the track.
