Janelle Monae - Heroes (David Bowie Cover)

For Pepsi‘s “Now Is What You Make It” campaign they’ve chosen Janelle Monae for a cover of David Bowie‘s classic song “Heroes.” Though the track is still based on Bowie’s original template, Monae and her production crew have injected some of the same sounds we hear in today’s glossy electronic music, and given the track more of a dancefloor-suited bounce. When speaking to Rolling Stone about the track, Monae said “Heroes” was a favorite song of hers, and that creating the song was like “reimagining” it. Though humble, she drew similarities between her and the English legend, stating that just like Bowie she will “never expire” because of the timeless qualities of the music they both make.
