As companies continue to gear players and audiences ahead of this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, Nike celebrates its longtime partner – Portugal – with a new set of kits. The Portuguese Football Federation, celebrating its centennial this year, has a longstanding success in producing some of the world’s top football talent. The jerseys pay tribute to this with their gradient stripes on the body, date detailing around the federation crest for the past and present, and a printed emblem at the back of the neck. The shield – properly titled Armillary Sphere – has been a Portuguese seafaring symbol for over 500 years, and is an integral element of the country’s own national flag. Athletic details like laser-cut ventilation holes and abrasion prevention padding at the sides complete the kit. Look for this exciting offering on Nike’s website later today, and in stores on March 5.
