As the tensions between America’s law enforcement and its citizens continues to boil, Adult Swim‘s blacksploitation parody Black Dynamite plans to air an hour-long musical specially themed around police brutality. Titled “The Wizard of Watts,” this particular episode calls upon the likes of Erykah Badu, Tyler, the Creator, Tim Blake Nelson, J.B. Smoove and more, as Black Dynamite — played by Michael Jai White — must return from a vacation to defend his community from violent cops. During the scuffle however, Black Dynamite begins to hallucinate into the “Magical Land of Oz-Watts” after being struck in the head by a brick. Director Carl Jones spoke on the special, stating “As a comedy writer, I feel it’s my job to make people laugh while using constructive social criticism to evoke thought and inspire dialogue.”
“The Wizard of Watts” will air January 10 at 10:30 p.m. EST on Adult Swim.
