While Pantone has largely cemented itself as the industry’s leading proprietary color space, the New Jersey-based brand has shown a strong desire to branch outwards into lifestyle over the course of the last few years. The spectrum of commercial products has largely encompassed small and simple pieces ranging from phone cases to mugs. A latest move, features PANTONE’s partnership with Brightkey manifest over an iOS keyboard. Initial reports from Co.Design cite that unfortunately, a lack of integration with Pantone’s strongest ability — to name correctly and define colors — results in a lost opportunity to connect consumers with Pantone’s core business. As it stands, the keyboard add-on simply allows the users to pick and choose from 11 different pre-chosen palettes without additional functionality, for example such as providing a visual reference when somebody messages you with a vocabulary of nondescript colors. The app can be downloaded now through iTunes for free.
