Owning Damien Hirst's $1.5 Million "Mickey" Is Likely to Never Happen But Settle for a $98 T-shirt

Marc Jacobs and Damien Hirst join forces with art publisher Other Criteria on a new capsule of T-shirts revolving around Hirst’s iconic “Mickey.” Stripping Mickey Mouse to his bare essentials, original design by Hirst dates back five years when Disney invited the British mega artist to reappropriate Mickey Mouse. That particular piece of artwork later went on the auction blocks in early 2014 for over $1.5 million USD with proceeds making their way to the Kids Company, an organization that focuses on bettering the lives in Britain’s inner-city youth. While the likelihood of ever owning the original “Mickey” is virtually none, the design in T-shirt form offers a slightly more affordable option with a $98 USD T-shirt for adults or the $58 USD variant for children. The T-shirts will be available starting Friday at Marc Jacobs retailers and Other Criteria stores.
