Sony/ATV And Marvin Gaye's Family Settle "Blurred Lines" Lawsuit

It appears that one agreement has been reached in the ongoing legal battle between Marvin Gaye‘s family and Robin Thicke over the similarities between “Blurred Lines” and “Got to Give It Up.” After Robin Thicke brought litigation and sought declaratory relief that his song wasn’t an improper copy of Marvin Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up,” the late singer’s family not only brought counterclaims against Thicke and his producers, but also targeted EMI April, owned by Sony/ATV, for allegedly breaching its obligations to protect the Gaye catalog. According to Billboard, the settlement agreement states that Sony/ATV won’t have to defend their impartiality in administering copyrights to both Thicke’s work and Gaye’s. While the terms of the settlement aren’t public, this new development may not completely finish Sony/ATV’s involvement in the dispute.
