From the German engineers at Volkswagon we’re presented with a closer look at the 2014 Golf R a week ahead of its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The sporty hatchback is built around a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission or six-speed stick that controls its Haldex all-wheel-drive system. At 296 horsepower this powerful upgrade travels from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 250 km/h. And while it’s not only faster than its predecessor it’s also 18 percent more fuel-efficient. Arriving in European markets at the end of the year, the 2014 Golf R also features bigger air intakes, more aggressive bumper lines, double exhausts, 18-inch allow wheels and more.
