Danny Brown‘s admitted that he’s a huge fan of reading hip-hop reviews in the past, which is rather unusual for an artist. Then again, what is usual about Danny Brown? During his interview with the Huffington Post, Danny took the role of reviewer by sharing his thoughts on the two most talked-about hip-hop albums of the last month, Magna Carta… Holy Grail by Jay-Z and Yeezus by Kanye West. Unlike Earl Sweatshirt‘s opinion about Magna Carta… Holy Grail, Danny Brown didn’t directly discuss the music made, but the statement the album made. As for Yeezus, he likens it to his own “experimental” style. Read the excerpts below or whole interview here.
On Jay-Z’s Magna Carta… Holy Grail:
At the end of the day, Jay-Z always says he’s ‘the Michael Jordan of rap’ and shit, and this was like when Jordan played for the Wizards and bought the team. He got a deal to sell a million records and he did it.
On Kanye West’s Yeezus:
It stood for exactly what I stood for, being progressive with rap music. If someone like him is sticking his neck out in his position, and saying, ‘Let’s be experimental,’ and now being experimental is cool, then that does nothing but help somebody like me… He can’t do Danny Brown, though, so I don’t care. No matter how weird he gets, it’s still not Danny Brown weird.
