Ever since Main Source’s 1991 LP Breaking Atoms — also noted for debuting a certain rapper named Nas — one should know that the art of rap and science do belong together. Harlem native Jabari Johnson took this alliance to the next level by spitting bars on the complex subject of kinetic energy. Johnson was one of 300 other New York-area high school students that spent a semester using rap to help them learn science as part of the after-school program Science Genius. He is also the youngest participant of the program and won the Science Genius B.A.T.T.L.E.S. (Bringing Attention to Transforming Teaching, Learning and Engagement in Science) competition on June 21. This was organized by assistant professor of science education at Teachers College at Columbia University Chris Emdin, Wu-Tang Clan’s GZA, and Rap Genius. Check it out above.
