It seems as if Google will seek to add a music subscription service to their repertoire, having ostensibly secured licensing deals with Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group. Public speculation began to intensify after The Verge reported these actions will be confirmed by Google at their annual developer conference this week: Google I/O. While specific services of the music service are yet verified, all signs point to a sizable music library that users can access for a small fee. If true, this service seems to directly compete with other music subscription products, notably Spotify, which already maintains 24 million active users and 6 million paid subscribers.
