It didn’t take long for Emmett Till’s family to respond to Lil Wayne‘s apology for his reference on Future‘s “Karate Chop.” As TMZ points out, Airickca Gordon-Taylor – Executive Director of the Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation and Till Family Representative – feels that this statement “falls short of an apology.”
“While it’s commendable that he has vowed to respect the legacy of Emmett Till and his memory to ‘not use or reference Emmett Till or the Till family in his music,’ this statement falls short of an apology, as none is mentioned.”
In related news, members of the Till Family and affiliates of the Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation released a YouTube video, asking Mountain Dew to cut its marketing relationship with Weezy:
“We also support blocking and banning the endorsements… Don’t do the Dew. Stop buying it, stop lining his pockets. People are outraged because they feel he should apologize to our family.”
Yup, Mountain Dew has sure seen easier days. And so has Weezy.
