More than three decades after its release, Stanley Kubrick‘s horror masterpiece The Shining is still a strange source of fashion inspiration. MISCHIEF‘s “MIRRORRIM” lookbook for Fall/Winter 2013 channels the eerie story of Jack Torrance and family with a collection based on the mirror — and the fantasies and ideas released from within. It’s not nearly as scary as it sounds. With a focus on fabrics, layering, pattern and color, the Taiwanese label tells its own tale with unconventional silhouettes that bridge the gap between city and country. Stand-collar jackets, cropped duffle coats, double-breasted peacoats and bombers in ethnic patterns anchor the outerwear-heavy collection, while combo fabric construction and unexpected pocket placements add an element of surprise. Providing doses of twisted Americana throughout are vintage ballcaps, crewneck sweatshirts, and a pinstriped baseball jersey. The result is a unique offering that should serve wearers well next season, whether it be in the city or at an isolated hotel in the Colorado mountains.
