With confusion running rampant over exactly how the Harlem Shake went from a necessarily uptown Manhattan phenomenon to something your aunt includes in the monthly family newsletter, Azealia Banks introduces this new video of her take on the admittedly catchy beat. Coming hot on the heels of her dispute with Baauer over permission to use the track, the video is sure to please fans who were unable to catch the song before it was pulled. With impeccable timing on both the song’s release and her verses, Banks adds another, much sexier interpretation to the song. Triumphantly proclaiming her Harlem background throughout the song, Banks has never sounded more crisp, though her flow may have been briefly overshadowed by her quick rise to ‘fashion icon’ status in 2012. In any regard though, the Baauer-produced beat was thoroughly handled by Banks, though it’s still not the same as the shoulder-jerking dance of our youth.
