In an interesting conceptual marriage between visual and physical art, legendary skateboarder Lance Mountain teamed up with Matthew Barney to benefit Detroit’s Ride It Sculpture Skate Park. The Ride It park was part of the result of the joint collaboration between Power House Productions (a community-based nonprofit) and Juxtapoz magazine. Now in its third year, the Ride It park is a creative center in Detroit’s art community. To celebrate, artist Matthew Barney created a custom skate deck adorned with a piece of graphite at the tip. He donated the piece to the park such that one creative skater would leave a lasting impression of their tricks on the park. Enter Lance Mountain, whose creativity has influenced skateboarding for over 20 years. Watch as Mountain explores the park and details his experience working on such a unique project.
