Nike‘s contributions to the development of basketball on both a sporting and commercial level are virtually unrivaled. From their investment in players and helping building the game to global proportions, Nike Co-Founder and Chairman Phil Knight was rightfully inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday night. Knight’s introduction on the evening came fittingly from somebody he had thoroughly supported over the years — Michael Jordan. Gracious and humble, Knight offered the quote below:
“My knees buckled. My knees actually buckled when I got the call that I was to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. This is an incredible honor to be recognized for contributing to the expansion of the game, and for collaborating with players over the years to deliver performance innovation.”
A series of basketball-related speeches and content from the evening can be seen over at the NBA microsite.
