Skyline Residence by Skylab Architecture

Skyline Residence, by the also appropriately-named Skylab Architecture firm, is a 3300-square-foot contemporary home set on a steep slope overlooking the Willamette Valley and Oregon Coast range. Comprised of two main interlocking and perpendicular segments, the architects designed the ethereal, black structure with a timber frame supported by a steel assembly core. The main private quarters are located on the top floor, affording the owners an unsurpassed view of the natural Western landscape, while the kitchen is the focal point of the lower level, beneath which a hollowed out area also acts as a driveway of sorts. The Skyline Residence is prominent and bold enough to stand out amidst its natural lay of the land while sufficiently streamlined and understated so as to avoid becoming an eyesore that distracts from the great outdoors.
