Adam Yauch's Will Prohibits Commercial Use of Beastie Boys Music

According to Rolling Stone, the Beastie Boys’ Adam “MCA” Yauch has prohibited the use of his music and “artistic property” for any commercial uses following his death as stated in his will. Yauch’s will was filed on Tuesday in Manhattan Surrogate court, and states:

Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, in no event may my image or name or any music or any artistic property created by me be used for advertising purposes.

It’s still unclear whether Yauch’s will would prevent other members of the group from ever selling the music they wrote together to advertisers, but the reason behind the move is so that MCA’s reputation will forever stay the way he left it. The will also names Yauch’s wife, Dechen, as the executor of his estate, and placed his entire fortune of $6.4 million in a trust to both his wife and their 13-year-old daughter. The will also says Dechen has the right to sell and manage his artistic property. Adam Yauch passed away at the age of 47 due to cancer.
