In honor of the Dragon Boat Festival, Beijing designer Zhijun Wang has lent his unique pyrography craftsmanship to a new sneaker iteration — this time, the New Balance HS77. Having previously curated a special edition Nike Air Force 1 Low, this time the silhouette of choice takes on a majority blue colorway that represents the “Blue Dragon” hue that reflects the Dragon Boat’s hull. Hits of dragon pattern along the exterior toe box and inner “N” add a stark and thematic contrast to the anterior portion of the sneaker while wind and waves envelope the rear heel giving further nod to the Dragon Boat Festival. Although the shoe will not see an official sale, the bespoke pair highlights both New Balance and Zhijun Wang’s dedication to the sneaker culture as well as their efforts to promote various elements of Chinese culture.
