Thanks to Clint Dempsey’s Jozy Altidore-assisted 55th-minute goal, the United States men’s national soccer team knocked off the Italians today 1-0, marking the first ever win for the Americans over Italy in 11 tries over the course of 82 years. The match also marked Italy’s first ever loss in Genoa. However, the event was not only notable for the U.S. win – it also marked the on-pitch debut of the new Nike USA away kit. The lightest and most environmentally-friendly jersey the brand has ever produced, the kit is made using an average of 13 recycled plastic bottles and features shirts made of at least 96% recycled polyester, resulting in a fabric that’s 23% lighter than the version that debuted four years ago. Also 20% stronger with a double knit structure, the Dri-FIT kit sports laser-cut ventilation and localized cooling zones. Aesthetically, the shirts sport a tonal sash across the front as an ode to the 1950 team that defeated England to win the World Championship finals in Brazil. Capping off the look are the stars and stripes of “Old Glory” on the inside of the neck. The new jersey is now available from Nike Store.
