Every so often, the folks over at Rolling Stone release a new addition to their highly respected series of lists that proclaim what they feel are the best songs, albums, artists, etc. of all time. This time around, they crossed into genre territory that they hadn’t touched before: hip-hop. Today, the renowned magazine unveiled its ‘50 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time’ list, and as expected, the debates over it are already heating up. “This is terrible, cliched nonsense,” one viewer comment reads. “No mention of Gangstarr, The Pharcyde, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, MF Doom or a real reference to J Dilla.” While opinions will certainly vary, there shouldn’t be too much argument over the artists that were picked to grace the four different front covers of the special print issue (view them here), which will hit newsstands next week: 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., Eminem and Jay-Z. But hey, if you do have a problem with all of this and want to know who to blame, Rolling Stone has you covered there, too. Click here to read through the list—which opens with an introduction by ?uestlove—and afterward, go here to see the names of all 33 people who had input on its creation, including Nas, Q-Tip, Pete Rock, Rick Rubin and Dante Ross. And of course, let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. Is the list on point? What’s missing and deserves to be on there, and what doesn’t? In your eyes, what is the greatest hip-hop song of all time?
